About: Amir Shefet

Amir Sheft, born in Israel, 1978, creates and works in Israel. In his works he ranges between meticulous realism and abstract expressionism. By combining these two styles, Shaft wants to dive into the kitsch, then go "beyond it", towards something more real, more honest. Sheft explains that his entire body of work encompasses the tension between shallow and deep, sweetness and fragility, irony, and faith... above all his paintings are a celebration of the rich possibilities inherent in painting.

Sheft ranges between the image as drawn by children, the image that is anatomically correct, and the image drawn from observation. His wok method feels like patchwork, he creates an image and erases it, and in between are these blocks, blocks of color in different designs, sometimes look like a wall or a background, but they often stand between the viewer and the image. Thanks to all this, his works create a feeling of an abstract work that can go on forever in any direction, an “all-over painting”.

Sheft is a graduate of the MFA program in art from Bezalel. His works have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, starting with the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, and are in collections around the world, such as the Microsoft Collection, Bank Leumi, Bank Hapoalim, the Dobi Sheif Collection and more.
