A LALIQUE 'FAUVETTES' ASHTRAY

Marcilhac no. 282, c. 1935 Marked ‘R. Lalique’ in stencil. 17 cm diameter *Rene Lalique began experimenting with manufactured glass in 1902 in the village of Clairefontaine, near Paris. By 1912 Rene Lalique’s factory was producing a range of glass objects such as vases, perfume bottles, ashtrays and tableware. Lalique’s vision for the glass arts was spelled out in an interview that he did in the mid 1920’s where he explained that he would like to reduce the price of glass through mass manufacturing processes while making many different designs, in order to introduce glass art into every home and make it available to everyone.
