Oren Eliav

Untitled, 2014,
Oil on canvas, 120×200 cm.
Signed and dated on the reverse.

Oren Eliav, Five Years, 2016, p. 92-93 (Illustrated).

This painting is from Oren Eliav’s “classical” period, when he observed, constructed and dismantled church baroque paintings, clashing optics with religion. With a mastery of traditional oil on canvas techniques and virtuosic brushstrokes, Eliav links the physical and the digital , truth and illusion, faith and doubt. This vibrant painting in a horizontal format was purchased directly from the artist studio by a prestigious International Collection in 2014. The painting is documented in literature (Oren Eliav, Five Years, 2016, pp. 92-93 (photographed)).

Eliav is an artist who constantly challenges contemporary painting and explores the nature of the painted image, whether by analyzing a 15th-century Italian painting or by interacting with artificial intelligence. He has had many solo exhibitions, among others at Building Gallery, Milan; Suzanne Tarasieve Gallery, Paris; Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum, Braverman Gallery and more.

His works belong in numerous public collections including National Gallery of Art, Washington; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; Phillips Collection, Washington; Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The National Gallery, Washington; Phillips Collection, Washington; Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection, Turin; Ekhart Collection Holland; Israel Museum Collection, Tel Aviv Museum Collection, Podesta Collection Washington and more.

He has won many awards including the Tel Aviv Museum Rappaport Prize for a Young Artist, Ministry of Culture Prize and many more.
