Nirit Takele, an artist, is one of the prominent and successful creators in the younger generation of Ethiopian-Israeli artists living and working in Tel Aviv. A graduate of the Multidisciplinary Art School in Shenkar, Takele paints in large formats, creating personal yet social paintings with a rich use of colors and shapes and exceptional skill in playing with light and shadow.

Since winning the "Hammer Prize" at the Fresh Paint Fair 9 for her painting "Saturday After Prayer" in 2017, Takelehas continued to exhibit her works in prestigious galleries. Her paintings have been displayed in Israel and around the world, including in London, Addis Ababa, Beijing, and Cape Town. In 2019, she was awarded the Young Artist Prize by the Ministry of Culture and Sports. Her works have been acquired by numerous private collections both domestically and internationally, as well as by public collections such as the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv Museum collection, the Bank of Israel collection, the Discount Bank collection, the Melany and Matthew Bronfman collection, and the Israel McKee collection.

Her works are emotionally stirring and touch upon issues from everyday life and the folklore of Ethiopian culture. Takele’s paintings are harmonious compositions featuring figures dressed in traditional and angelic Ethiopian attire or grouped together in a cohesive manner.

In the past year, Takele presented her first solo exhibition at the Negev Museum of Art titled "Chromatic." Ron Bartosh, the exhibition’s curator, describes Takele as a colorist, with her painting being an explosive event of color. In an interview with the artist, Takele talks about the strengths of the Ethiopian community that she aims to highlight in her paintings, using the broad and large canvas to empower the characters she portrays. She also shares how she felt a strong connection to sculpture during her studies, and in her paintings, she depicts sculptural, blocky figures that appear as if carved from stone.
